纠(jiū)结(jié)
“Jiū Jié” is used to describe a dilemma state. When people are in this situation, they are usually anxious and don’t know what to do. This word originally refers to branches’ entanglement. However, in 2004, it was used with a derivate meaning in a cartoon and gradually spread among the public. Nowadays, it has been employed to express one’s confusion and anxiety when one is totally lost, as if many things are entangled and cannot be untied.
Examples:
1. 不要纠结啦,就买这个红色的吧。
Búyào zài jiūjié la, jiù mǎi zhègè hóngsè de ba.
Do not hesitate, just buy this red one.
2. 再纠结下去, 对你没有帮助。
Zài jiūjié xiàqù, duì nǐ méiyǒu bāngzhù.
It is unhelpful for you to keep entangling such things in
your mind.
