围(wéi)脖(bó)
This word literally means scarf. In Chinese Mandarin, scarf and micro-blog are homonyms. 微(wēi)博(bó), short for微(wēi)博(bó)客(kè) (micro-blog), is an interface on which users can write updates through text messages, mobile Internet and computer networks. The content, which is usually under 140 words, can be shared instantly. Twitter is the earliest and most famous micro-blogging site. In August, 2009, Sina became the first Chinese web portal that provides a micro-blogging service, thus giving birth to China’s first micro blog.
Examples:
1. 今天你发围脖了吗?
Jīntiān nǐ fā wéibó le ma?
Have you updated your micro-blog today?
2. 我每天都会上围脖写点东西。
Wǒ měitiān dōu huì shàng wéibó xiě diǎn dōngxi.
I update my micro-blog everyday.
