元(yuán)宵(xiāo)节(jié)快(kuài)到(dào)了(le)!
The Chinese Lantern Festival is coming on Feb 24th!
The Lantern Festival or 元(yuán)宵(xiāo)节(jié) is on the 15th of the first month of the Chinese New Year. It marks the end of the celebrations of the Chinese New Year.
On the night of the festival, people go on streets with a variety of lanterns under the full moon, watching lions or dragon dancing, playing Chinese riddles and games, and lighting up firecrackers.
Yuanxiao(元yuán宵xiāo,called by the northerners) or Tangyuan(汤tāng圆yuán,called by the southerners) is the special food for the Festival. It is believed that Yuanxiao is named after a palace maid, Yuanxiao, of Emperor Wu Di of the Han Dynasty. Yuanxiao is a kind of sweet dumpling made with sticky rice flour filled with sweet stuffing.
Yuanxiao is sticky, sweet and round in shape, symbolizing family unity(团tuán聚jù) , completeness(完wán美měi) and happiness(幸xìng福fú).
