Chinese Culture -- 姓(Surname)

中(zhōng)国(guó)人(rén)的(de)姓(xìng)
Chinese’s surname

Out of 4100 Chinese surnames, 李(lǐ),王(wáng),张(zhāng) are the top three common names. Chinese family names are patrilineal, passed from father to children. In current Chinese practice, surnames are not changed upon marriage. However, in places with Western influence such as Hong Kong, women may (legally or informally) adopt their husband's surname.
