Chinese Proverb -- 吃一堑，长一智

吃一堑，长一智

This phase basically means” A fall into the pit, a gain in your wit”. Here the 堑(qiàn) means a pit and the 智(zhì) means wisdom.

Some never learned anything from the fall. The proverb for this is: 好(hao3)了(le)伤(shang1)疤(ba1)，忘(wang4)了(le)疼(teng2). It means that once the wound/scar is healed, the pain is forgotten. You don't remember what happened.
